The Right Mouse Click + You = <3
Hi everyone,
I'm back with another lil tips & tricks post--this time about the right click on your mouse. Similar to my last post about Particle Distance, I'll list out some of the most important things imo about right clicking in CLO.
1. If you don't have a 3-click mouse, you should probably get one. Like right now.
I mean one of these guys:
You can get a cuter one if you want, but it'll work fine as long as it has a left click, a right click, and a middle scroll wheel. Once you've gotten one, you'll want to change your user settings in CLO in order to have the correct navigation controls. Change your settings in Settings > User Settings > View Controls > Preset = Regular Mouse.
2. Almost anything can be right clicked on.
And each thing you right click on will pop-up with a different menu with different options. Each tool will also have it's own special right click menu, so just try selecting a tool and click around to see what Easter eggs pop up.
This can be really overwhelming (but maybe also fun)! Everything's okay though, because you have me, and I'll walk you through some of the best things you can find in the program. 💪
3. If you can imagine it, you can accomplish it with a right click (probably).
Most of the options that pop-up when you right click on something are commands that are more complex than what you can do with a single tool. This means that if you need to move something or click and drag, you'll still want to use your left click, but you'll want the right click to access less straightforward functions.
For example, clicking on an Avatar will just highlight it and maybe let you move it, but right clicking on an Avatar gives you all of these options:
(Image: CLO Avatar with toolbar listing multiple options in front of it. Options include Delete Avatar, Deactivate Avatar, Hide All Avatars, etc.)
Here's a quick guide to some useful things you can do. Right click on ____ to:
- Grey space in the 3D Window - Change camera view, change Gizmo, Refresh Textures, show/hide Avatars/patterns
- Grid area of 2D Window - Lock patterns/internal lines, show/hide pattern markings, Grid properties
- Select/Move Tool - Pattern in 3D Window - Deactivate, Freeze, Strengthen, Reset 2D/3D Arrangement of selected piece, Superimpose options
- Transform Pattern Tool - Pattern in 2D Window - Copy/paste, make a Symmetric Pattern (with Sewing), order/rotate/flip, Deactivate, Freeze, Strengthen
- Edit Pattern Tool - Pattern segment - Split line, change length, offset outline
- Edit Pattern Tool - Pattern point - Convert to Curve Point, add notch
- Edit Sewing Tool - Sewing line - Reverse sewing, delete sewing
- Select/Move Button - Existing button - Duplicate as Buttonhole to Symmetric Pattern
4. If you want to be exact, right click.
When you're editing patterns in the 2D Window, clicking and dragging lines and segments will only get you so far. To be very precise and make sure you're working with accurate measurements, you'll want to start right clicking.
There are a few ways this works:
- In the middle of dragging your line/segment with the Transform or Edit Pattern tool, right click once and a toolbox will pop-up. This lets you enter in the exact dimension that you want to move your object. Here's a baby video showing some examples of scaling and editing in the 2D Window and using the right click to open the measurements box. This works while you're drawing as well. If you are using the Polygon or Internal Polygon tool, right click instead of left clicking your next point and a box will open to let you enter in the distance where you want to place that point.
- When you want to copy and paste something, after you CTRL + V but before you click to place it, right click instead and a Paste toolbox will open to let you decide how many and how far away you want to paste your object. This is super helpful when creating button plackets!
- Some pattern editing tools let you right click once on your pattern to open up the measurement box without clicking and dragging on anything. This includes the Add Point/Split Line, Notch, and Smooth Curve tools. When you're using the Add Point/Split Line or Notch tool, right click once on a segment and you'll be able to split that line using these options:
And then right clicking once on a point while using the Smooth Curve tool will let you enter in the exact amount you want to smooth that corner.
In summary, right clicking should be your best friend as you're working in CLO. Almost anything you could want to do, you can find in a right click menu. It's just up to you how far you want to explore and what you end up finding as you work.
If you have favorite right click commands, please def share them below!

Hi skalfus. Have you checked to make sue you have the correct mouse settings. Either Regular Mouse for PC, or Magic Mouse for MAC. Also when selecting a single line make sure you are using the Edit Pattern tool and not the Transform Pattern tool
