Linked pattern pieces and top stitching
I'm trying to create topstitching on the front and back rise of a pair of pants. The pattern pieces were cloned with linked editing so when I try to add topstitching to one, it adds it to the cloned piece as well. Is there a way to add topstitching to one side only without unlinking the pattern pieces? If not, is there a way to unlink the pieces, create the top stitching and then relink them?
Thanks!

Hi Jeffyee. Try to use Instance Pattern instead of Symmetric Pattern.
Still though, why would you want to maintain the symmetric editing capabilities when you are adding the topstitches? As a general workflow, you would add topstitches at the very end of your process, where no big changes are going to happen to the shape of your patterns. Reason being that every time you add stitches you are adding a lot of geometry and making simulation much slower and the file size larger. At this stage using pattern editing doesn't make much sense.

Jeffyee,
you can break the pattern editing link at any stage by selecting one of the linked patterns and right clicking your mouse to bring up the modal > remove linked editing.
You will see the linked blue line between patterns will vanish and they will now behave as separate pattern pieces when editing.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I'm a little over two weeks into trialing the software and its pretty amazing. I like the idea of maintaining the linked editing between patterns so that if I want to tweak a pattern piece at some point in the future, I would not have to do it twice. However, it seems like in order to do what I'm trying to do I will have to remove the linked editing.

jeffyee, there are a number of ways to work with CLO3D. So it depends what your current workflow is like and how you want to build productivity as you transition into the digital stream of sample making.
There is also the Modulator mode which allows you to place your base blocks and style variants as an option. So if you use blocks as your leaping off point, you can leverage speed and reduce editing. You can also just save patterns out as pieces, that you pop back in by adding them into a project. There are many ways to factor in how you might work to build your library of digital assets for patterns so you grow out the variety of what you can do and then the speed at which you can work.

This is great information ottoline. Once I get the basics down a bit more, I will look into methods for creating a workflow that suits my needs.
Thanks again!
