    You need to lower the  pattern piece  >particle distance > from the default 20mm > to a lower value like 5mm in the property editor > and run the simulation on the GPU > non linear complete > to get a final higher quality simulation.

     

    The particle distance determines the size of the polygon mesh of the cloth > therefore a lower value = smaller polygons and ability to fold and crease more refined.

    Thank you for your reply! I have tried your suggestions, also reduced the noise and changed the maximum render time to 60 minutes, and it still looks slightly weird. The only suggestion i didn't get was the 'non linear complete', do you suggest to turn off linear workflow? 

    In real life it looks much smoother, not sure what I am doing wrong.

    ilinca, ottoline was talking about reducing the particle distance not the noise goal in your rendering settings. This has nothing to do with rendering but with simulation. Same for Non-Linear-Complete. Do a quick search here in the manuals for simulation and you'll see what it means.

    See below how I simulate a cascade of duchess satin setting the simulation particle mesh size to 5mm on the pattern > do this in the property editor. You then need to set your simulation to > CPU  > best quality > complete non linear when you run that final 'beauty pass' simulation for the garment assembly.

     

    A duchess silk is never flat,it has plenty of micro frequency detail and you can do this relatively easily. Then render any colorways you want under an HDRI.

     

    What you see is possible to get nice soft rolling creasing into the drape simulation in a few minutes when you set the particle mesh density lower (5mm) and then combine it with simple textures that scale to suit your project or desired fabric look.

    ottoline thank you so much for the guide, I have always wondered why pro digital clothes look so much more realistic than what I was doing! I will definitely give it a try and share the results. Thanks again for pointing in the right direction
