Pigment wash - brush and effect

How do I make the Brush 54 and the wash effect of the video in Illustrator? For the brush I tried copying it by making a gradient square but it did not result in the same effect as in the video..

  Can you please add images of your brush as a PNG and also show us what it looks like when applied in CLO. If we can offer help we will. But you may also need to research Illustrator specific forums as well for more assistance in making brushes

  This is how it looks in CLO, followed by the PNG I made in illustrator.

  You need to make sure you export with opacity frrom Ai. Otherwise all you will get is a white solid box. 

  For making gradients with Opacity please look into Adobe Illustrator forums and tutorials as these will guide you on the process
