Can't convert OBJ to Avatar
Hi everyone!
So today I tried to make a custom avatar (I used Thomas standard avatar as a starter) so I exported OBJ from CLO, then edited in Daz3D and exported to OBJ once again. I used option "Convert to Avatar", changed hight etc. (everything that I needed) and here problem appears – everything freeze while converting on 20%. It might be that I don't have a powerful computer (MacBook Air) but I still managed to do a lot of heavy stuff and here is my question. Is a common problem or it seems like it freeze because of not powerful enough computer?

Hi sebgot96. Maybe someone else have faced the same issue and will chime in. Can you share the OBJ file that you are trying to convert into an avatar to test it here?
Also, can you try the import the OBJ as an Avatar but without converting into an Avatar.

About second option I know already but I can't use measurement and joints then.

I'm not sure if it was because of your computer or the adjustments you need to do prior to conversion, but I was able to convert. It took about 6 minutes.

The Mac Air has an i5 processor with only 2 cores verse the Mac pro i5 with a quad core - is the main difference.
For simulation in CLO3D it is the clock speed of the CPU that results in the best performance. The higher your CPU clock speed the better. CLO3D does have GPU simulation however it is fickle and perhaps not as reliable as the CPU simulation. So at this point it still makes good sense to have a CPU with at least 4 cores and as high clock speed as you can muster.
If I were recommending anyone to use CLO3D and select hardware I would simply say drop the MAC and go get a dedicated workstation with i7 CPU at over 4.5 GHz or one that is turbo charged. The i7 8th generation (with turbo boost) is a good choice and CLO3D runs well on a laptop in the $2k price-point.

I agree ottoline. I'm kind of biased because I've never used Mac, but from what I hear, CLO3D is more stable and fast in Windows.
If you add the cloud solutions from Microsoft (OneDrive) I keep my 512 GB M2 SSD almost free and all the files in the cloud. That way every now and then I simply wipe off everything and do a clean install. That keeps my software running at top speed. It might take me about 2 to 3 hours to get everything back to where it was, but I'm not bogged down by slowly decaying software installations.

You download a cloned 512GBdrive from the cloud (at what bandwidth - cos you typically need to have a fully cloned HD partition using that logic not OS installer files) or spend an additional 2-3 hours re-installing ? I am stunned.
At $150 per hour billing rate for CG work and the low cost of another 500GB SSD drive as a OS backup @$150 - I think that all reads as unwise. It should only ever take 2 minutes to get going again with a virgin OS system at full pace sellotaped to a smart strategy that is bullet proof for you and your clients. That is standard practice for any workstation and the ability to respond to client demands with hardware even if software causes a temporary glitch or OS slowdown - have an immediate backup.

Dash out and get another SSD drive for some peace of mind and set to Clone incrementally that way you can dial back to any given OS state - or if a hardware SSD drive goes blooey. Then you are up an running in 2 minutes in future. If your main OS slows down JUST use the single button restore on bootup. (Deep freeze your OS) @$60 - that has got to be 2 more cost effective solutions that sit well with full compliance and allow you to scale out the approach in future.

Do it - you owe it to your clients. Work smart and bank the peace of mind you saved a few hundred bucks in labor, ended up with a bullet proof OS system that reboots in under 2 minutes. Who wouldn't want that ?
