    I would say as a general guideline, instability comes from wrong stitch lines (one longer than the other one), layering (read about the Set Sublayer for stitches, Sublayer for pieces and Layers), the weight that the trims have (like zipper pullers or sliders) which will come down with gravity and start messing with your fabrics, and finally, how ridgid your pieces are in the case of a self supported piece like a backpack, where there is no avatar inside for the fabric to drape on.

    After you check and check for all these things and if you are certain you have covered the basics of the construction. I will suggest the freeze option, which after simulation, when the basic structure is stable and in place, you freeze those parts before adding new ones. If your aim is visual appeal and not testing the actual construction of the accessory (testing for construction details), then using freeze will allow you to model a backpack just like you want it, even by defying some real life physics.

    I wish you luck in honing your skills. What I will say is that this is a great software but you need to put the hours so you can show great results.

    instability can occur in animations. I do not see a screenshot of your instability. You want help, but don’t even want to take a screenshot.
    I can only advise you to use not a built-in zip tool, but a strip of fabric with texture. Usually, zip is not stable during an animation

    Thank you both for such quick (and helpful) answers. I'll be sure to include a screenshot next time!

    The issue definitely seemed to lie with the zipper tool, replacing the zippers with strips of fabric solved the instability. I'd still like to figure out a solution while using the zipper tool - it seems adjusting the weight of the zipper and potentially freezing aspects of the bag might be key to that.

    My aim is indeed just as a visual tool. I am a student and with campus shut down due to Covid I'm learning CLO to model this bag as I don't have access to machines to make as refined of a physical model I had planned. It does seem like really powerful software, but certainly with a bit of a learning curve.
