Continuous delivery of high-res rendering in Jenkins

Hey ppodgorsek. I have investigated about the possibility to use the API to render using VRay external farms or machines, but so far the ability for that is limited in what is exposed in the SDK.

CLO is limiting this to CLO-SET as I'm sure they want to sell this service as a premium afterwards. Keeping their cards close to the chest and is totally understandable. I see rendering farms as an excellent revenue stream.

I think a workaround would need to export the garments as OBJ or FBX, automate the texturing placement and then using almost any other render engine. This will differ a lot from what you will get from CLO, so you would need to do the hi-res render in the same platform afterwards so you can have something comparable.

Let's see if someone else has some other experience or idea about this.

    Hi there,

we, too, are looking for a method to take the rendering process in house to guarantee rendering turnaround and quickly scale according to demands. While CLO-SET is a very good service, it simply doesn't scale to our needs in terms of turnaround and volume.

For starters, we would be happy to have CLO export V-Ray .vrscenes to disk to be rendered by V-Ray standalone. If for licensing terms we cannot use the CLO provided V-Rray command line, then we'd license V-Rray directly from Chaos Group.

For rendering task scheduling, we have RoyalRender already in place. But other solutions like Deadline would handle V-Ray standalone just fine.

Any feedback from product development regarding this is much appreciated.
