Alembic export does not contain material IDs/face IDs
Hello,
I would like to use the alembic export for simulations. It looks like no material IDs are exported.
So when dealing with multiple materials, alembic export is pretty useless.
Maybe someone could look into this.
Thanks

Hello unex thanks for your inquiry! CLO does not support material in the alembic library version we use. What program did you use for exporting material IDs/face IDs? Thanks!

Hi Guys,
I have the same problem. Why is that you had that option for alembic format export when you haven't icluded material ids support does make much sense does it ?

Hi nik_pixel,
This thread is 3 years old, and now it definitely works with UE. Where are you importing into?

Hi nik_pixel
Yes, we offer support both here and on our Discord channel. Can you please share your CLO export settings
You may also find more help on our Discord since we support CLO and not 3DS Max, but we have many users on Discord that use multiple programs and can likely offer further insight

Hi nik_pixel
As you already figured out we currently don´t support the Material ID export with Alembic.
We will take this as a feature request for a future update.Currently you can do a workaround by exporting an additional OBJ and simply copy & paste the material IDs onto you alembic file.
Make sure not to change anything else like the particle distance. The topology has to stay the same for both files (.obj and .abc)
I hope this helps!0 -
Hi,
THanks for your reply. The workaround is very clever! It does great job!
