Aesthetic pleats design on a jacket

Hello. I'm trying to create a jacket where there's a pleats design on the sides of the jacket as you can see below in the picture for aesthetic purposes. I'm able to get the pleats sewn at the top & bottom but it's not neatly down. It crumples up the fabric around it. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

  Hi. We have a video on our youtube for Pleats HERE. 

  The key is that you cannot sew the entire top line of the pleats to the jacket seam, but need to skip over small parts so that the pleat will be sewn evenly and will not crumple

  Thank you ! this video helped but I don't know how to skip over small parts of the jacket seam. How do I do that? (sorry I'm a newbie)

  Hi. If you are new you may find the Beginner Series to be helpful HERE. It is a great way to learn the foundations of CLO. And there is one video just about sewing 
  You can also find this video helpful that shows the specific pleat technique you may want to use. It is a shirt, but the pleat idea is the same HERE and HERE
