The same dress renders very differently every time, I don't know if it's a glitch or I'm doing something wrong

This is driving me insane. I designed a dress that's supposed to hold shape and remain round at the base.

At first it was rendering as intended (see project and video "01 - dress animation OK no rings" in this GDrive folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1BcUWZgoI53st-V-MQkJFtlULz3HgohZX?usp=sharing).

Then I added rings in the top part and struggled to keep them round (see project & video "02 - dress animation OK rings fail").

Finally when I figured out how to make the rings animate properly, the dress started to fail ("03 - dress animation fail rings ok"). Even though it has the same properties as it did in the initial project.

I'm using the latest version of CLO (6.0.560.32888) and tried this on both macOS and Windows with very similar results.
I really want to get the 3rd version of this project to work but I'm out of ideas what can be causing this strange rendering behavior :(

I would highly appreciate you pointing me in the right direction!
