Boning/keeping strapless garments up

Hi jeffieh . Can you add any photos of what you are trying to accomplish? Also have you searched through the Forums for other people talking about strapless/boning/corsets? There are a few good threads already going like this one HERE.

You can keep a garment in position by pinning the garment to the avatar.

For 'boning' you may turn any thin pattern piece into a stiffer fabric physical preset (that is stiff like bone) by creating a custom fabric (physical preset) and dragging and dropping that onto the pattern piece. And then you may set that pattern piece to solidify > Link. This allows the thin pattern piece that represents the 'bone' to become fixed in terms of stiffness yet still conform to the garment assembly as it collides. So in effect you may sew these bone stiffeners into the garment and they will help structure the garment.

And the 'preferred'  alternative is to use the internal line tool to draw out the bone shapes on the pattern pieces and apply ' Bonding' to that in local areas to stiffen the pattern piece. And then maybe sew over a matching cloth strip (copy internal line into a pattern piece) so that you get a thickness offset in the corset for each bone element.

    Notes:

For the main corset, you can add additional pattern piece physics by also adding in a secondary element called 'Bond' > see property editor below.

In MD this is also has a 'preset' called > reinforcement ( pocket bone) for this actual physical characteristic. You should have the same in CLO3D. (If not see the bone physical preset values below).

This physical preset allows you to draw an internal line (closed polygon shape) withing the boundaries of your pattern piece and apply additional stiffening on that local area. Then you may sew an additional pattern piece (by copying the internal line of the 'bonding area' for the bone) into a separate pattern piece and apply it as a second pattern piece over the 'bonded' bone element to give it some visual 3D height.

So that is how you can do it very easily and quickly. You may also play with the physical preset to make it stronger or more flexible.

All the same features will be in CLO3D.

Thank you for the information. I have 2 photos attached that show what I have vs what is need. The first photo shows how the garment lies without any structure. You can see it has a pointed bust and falls down. In the second photo I am holding up the neckline to show how I need it to sit. I want the boning to go over that dark yellow line right over the bust. Because the boning would go at the princess seam right over the bust it is difficult for me to figure out how to get that exact curved shape

Second part to the question: how do I then attach the boning to the fabric over the princess seam

I am also struggling with this! How do you make boning that keeps a strapless dress up !?!
