I cannot select skeleton

I have imported an animtion from mixamo and now I am trying to grab the skeleton to position for my garments. When I have the skelton view on (shift + x) I cannot select anything.

  Do you have the IK pop up box on (blue) or off (greyed out) when you have X-Ray Joints turned on? I have found Human IK doesn't work when you import a mixamo FBX. When it's turned on you can't select anything, but you can adjust the avatar with it off as you'll see her do in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18dvBwxkAU8
