Zipper interferring w/ another garment piece thats covering it
I'm making a back pack and one of the zippers has a piece of fabric thats covering the zipper, but the zipper seems to be causing interference and preventing the fabric from draping over the zipper- its like the zipper has a force field around it. When I delete the zipper, the fabric covering drapes over correctly. I tried seam taping the covering edges but no change. Also tried different fabrics and no change. Any settings on the zipper that could be causing this? Thanks!

Hi teddyg, I tried to replicate your problem but my attemps failed going fine everytime.
I did a lot of pants fliers with all the pieces of the real garments and all worked fine. Just the puller and the slider tend to come out somtime,Looking at your picture, especially at the end of the zip and the crease in the middle, it seams there is no space for the zip tape, each side is by default 5mm wide. You must take off 1 cm in total on the piece the zip is created and leave 1 cm free space on the side where these pieces are sewed.
I'm trying to guess. I hope it can help you.

Thanks Daniele,
Here's what I've tried again- once I create the zipper and Sim it, the flap is getting repelled by the zipper. Are you saying that I need to make the cut out on the face of the pack all the way thru on both left and right sides so there is a gap separating both sections? Pls see middle image that shows where I made the cut out on the pack , thanks
or the zipper0 -
Hi, the hole is correct.
Check the thickness collision of the pieces, maybe is to higher.
Try to simulate giving to the flap layer 1 property and also try to keep out the seam taping in the flap border.
Or if you want share your project, I can give it a look.

Thanks Daniele,
So far the only thing that works is if I slice that top part of the pack completely away, but the zipper pull and end still repells the flap so for now I'm not putting in the zipper. I'll attached the file once it's done- I'd like to get your overall opinion of it. Since the back pack is not on an avatar, I'm using the rigid leather material w/ no Gravity so that the pack doesn't collapse during Sim. For the flap I've given it the default Material so that it drapes over the pack correctly. Once it's all modeled I'll give it a more flexible Material so that it relaxes more during the Sim- maybe freeze a top portion of the pack to keep it from falling down. What sort of Material would you suggest to use for this pack- I've tried most and they all don't seem to have enough rigidity, or do you have any suggestions. I've looked online and haven't seen very much info on doing back packs in Clo.Thanks again!

Hi , for the avatar have you tryed to use the 3d_shape they are meant to be use for bags and backpack too.
Remeber that you can scale, rotate them as you need.
You can also create an obj in an external software and import it into Clo as avatar.
If you want, you can simulate just the shell/cage of you back pack in a rigid status ( strenghten or freeze) save it as avatar then and reimported it . it will fit the back pack perfectly.
You can reuse it at anytime.
For a rigid material set up a new fabric with these value in the property editor from top ( stretch_weft) to bottom ( friction) 32, 32, 32, 90, 90, 90, 1, 1, 1, 99, 99, 99, 1, 27, 3.

Thanks again Daniele,
Your stiffer fabric setting works great and I'm slowly making the pack but unfortunately the zipper is still repelling anything that covers it, so I'm leaving it as is. Next challenge will be feeding a cord thru the front tabs and then building the straps with buckles. I'm new to Clo but have used Maya for awhile- it's too bad both can't
combine their strengths together0 -
Here's what I was able to make- still more to learn but I'm enjoying the process

Hi, this is amazing!
Well done.

Thanks Daniele,
I appreciate your help and I learned a few things but have more to learn. I come from a retouching background working for Nike, etc, and 3D is rapidly augmenting traditional photography, and Clo does a great job on apparel and soft goods- I might try doing a shoe next-
