how popular DXF files are in the manufacturing world?
Hello,
Does anyone know how popular DXF files are in the manufacturing world?
I've had a some clients tell me that their manufacturer does not use DXF files.
I am curious to know the percentage/ratio of manufacturers that use and don't use DXF files.
Any insight is greatly appreciated it.
Thanks,
Natalia

Hi Natalia. We are a manufacturer ourselves. We use CLO for pre-visualizing our customer's an our own designs before manufacturing.
The DXF-AAMA or DXF-ASTM standard serves the purpose of bridging between specific software formats like those of Accumark, Modaris, Optitex and a lot of other proprietary formats.
Be sure to understand the difference between pure DXF (like the one used by AutoCAD or Adobe Illustrator) from DXF-AAMA or DXF-ASTM which are different. The AAMA specific for the apparel industry.

It wouldn't be realistic to expect that every manufacturer has the same 2D CAD software.
I myself use a subscription based 2D CAD software called PAD System (padsystem.com) which has its own format but can export and import to DXF-AAMA.

Natalia,
If your referenced manufacture is in Korea or China there are literally hundreds of pattern creation software types. I agree with the user Pablo. 99% of manufactures will be able to open a DXF pattern. There is also plenty of conversion software available.
Hope this helps
