How can we help you?

Looking for Body Scanner recommendations from CLO users.

Depends what level of accuracy you want and what the software will deliver in terms of automation on the landmarks. It's one thing to scan the surface data but an entirely different thing to get that data and the measurement points to correlate to your next system. If you are using CLO3D it's maybe best to stick with surface scan data only and use their avatar rig mapping system. If however you need ergonomic data acquisition - well you need to think about automation of landmarks if scanning a lot of customers, so they are quite different things. If it's made to measure, use the easiest tech that allows you to update models from time to time, in the future with a backend system online so you can also remotely manage the cast of fit models. All have different technical drivers and solution end + start points.

Maybe express a little more about what your ideal workflow would look like and then it's easier to recommend specific hardware, technology and an approach to hardware that better fits your needs. Tighten your technical brief.

Hello! Thank you for the reply.

Yes, would be scanning lots of bodies, but not necessarily doing garment making to start with, in using the data. (no made to measure over here :) )

I'm attempting to capture data of the Plus market, with good data integrity. Meaning your average person, not data coming from fitness centers, weight loss centers or medical settings. Looking at sizes 0x-8x.  Also under consideration are different areas of tissue density. Some mobile and not mobile. From that, figuring out different body types and then those becoming avatars. As of now, the avatars are hard bodies, but hoping future facing that tissues on avatar bodies would be malleable.

From that building avatars to be used in fitting, but I would estimate that 1-2 years down the road from the project starting. Thanks!

There are many options, depending on the level of accuracy required and also budget, as Ottoline has stated, but the main question I think will be how well the software interprets the raw scan data and then cleans it up.  The larger scan booths will give you better results, quicker than handhelds but will be more expensive.  Size Stream and TG3DS are both decent options. Artec3D make extremely good scanners. I have been experimenting with the LIDAR sensors on the iphone 12 pro max with mixed results- apparently Apple will be releasing RealityKit 2 and the Object Capture is supposed to be promising, for those on a budget.

I had been having conversations with a company that makes scanners and they were working on the next generation of their hardware, based in intel's RealSense cameras.  The technology required that at least four cameras be stationed in front of a person who would stand on some kind of turntable.  They said the next gen of camera could be handheld and you could walk around a person rather than having them stand still on a turntable.  This conversation was maybe 9 months ago and they said the next gen hardware should be out a year from then, so around nowish.  I flirted with the Structure Sensor but heard mixed reviews in the wild.

Having said all that, if it's just the data you're after, you may be reinventing the wheel. Human Solutions and Alvanon have scanned hundreds of thousands of people and will sell you data, scans, and/or avatars creating from the data, based on your target demographics. Personally, I think I would look long and hard at Human Solutions if I were in your position.

Hi @jdiduch ! Thank you so much for your response. I will definitely look into all of the things you have mentioned above and it gives me a great starting point for things to check out. I'll report back to what we end up doing, since the intent of what we are doing falls outside of the box, since it's a tired level project. I had seen a few things with the iPhone and was curious about that as well.

I wish it were just the data I was after for garment development! :)  I have seen Human Solutions offering, and they don't have a very good representation in that data pool of what I am looking for. I'm looking for a different data integrity, from the collection points.  Both Human Solutions and Alvanon top off in the key area I'm trying to collect the data (4x -8x), and don't have things (currently available) above the median of where I am hoping to collect. Hopeful this will change in the future, but the speed the Plus market is moving, I think it's going to be a long while to catch up.

    Thanks again for your comment!

I have run out in the field measurement workshops for 3D scanning for sports and Plus sizes, how many people are you intending to measure?

Hi @ottoline For some reason I can see your comments via my email notifications, but they are not all showing up on this forum page. Ideally we would want to look at several hundred of each "size", knowing that in Plus many bodies are different sizes from top to bottom. What I am getting at overall, is that this portion of the population is severely underserved in apparel offerings. The majority of the work I do is on these bodies, and I know them well. I'm looking to study the circumferences and tissue projections. As well as tissue hang, and what does looks like to body proportions and fitting. I write a lot of Plus sized grading currently based off of hand measures, fit models L-7X, and my visual understanding of the body.

I am in Portland, Oregon USA, and only looking to do US based scanning right now, as most of my work is US based. Thanks!

    Novelty + humor:

Zozosuit MKII after their catastrophic Zozo suit MKI market failure, round two and the MKII has emerged - more accurate !!

    Now looking for partnerships ?

Maybe MD + CLO3D could make a branded one of these ? Reminds me of the MD avatar suit fit process for garments on the avatar.

      ;-)
