Displacement map not rendering - 'compiling kernals for device GeForce RTX'

Check you are not using a 16 or 32 bit displacement map image. You should try a 8 bit and see if that remedies the situation.

I have tried all the different displacement versions and it has made no difference. I noticed that the displacement map works when used in fabric texture, but not in graphics. This is a very annoying problem. Have you come across this before?

A graphic is like a decal, so it's order in the shader (vray) might be cancelling out the displacement. I would need to try this out. Perhaps change the graphic map color and see if that contributes to a change if not it's the order of the image in the vray shader that might be at fault, so try a different fabric shader type (eg:metal and see if the fault goes away) if it does it could mean the shader for vray with a graphic over needs to be looked into.

Ottoline, thanks for your suggestions. So, I've tried different colour (greys) displacement map and it makes not difference. I also tried the different material settings and interestingly gem and glass is expressing displacement map although it is totally wrong. See picture. I have also spent today re-installing Windows, Clo and Nvidia driver without resolving the problem. I used to be able to do these displacement map renderings without any problems until a few days ago.

Yes that's strange - maybe use your online login account to post a message to CLO3D support and see if they can get back to you, you may need to send them the file, as it looks like it may be a fabric shader type issue. 20mm is a big displacement offset, does it occur at a smaller value? Or check you displacement map > maybe try a RGB 8 bit image as opposed to any other format RGBA or bit depth and see if those two factors make a change. Otherwise I might be stumped.

Ottoline, thanks for your suggestions as I have noticed that you have a wealth of knowledge from a lot of posts. Unfortunately in this case it has not solved the issue. I have contacted Clo technical support that mentioned that there was a bug with texture, but the new update has not manage to fix it. I have also sent them the a file to test so I will wait and see if there is any solution. And yes, I know that 20mm displacement is a very big displacement, I was just getting desperate hoping that if I cranked it up enough it would react...

Occasionally with the rolling updates there can be some glitches with features, I think many have been away on mid year holidays so maybe that has contributed to the solution being looked at.There have been many texture related updates relative to shaders flowing in (eg: sbar files and data exchange format updates) so I imagine this falls into one of those obscure issues. Hope it gets resolved soon for you.
