    Hi Mike,

Glad to see you're exploring the software!

The best set-up for Illustrator patterns it to make sure the outlines are all closed vector shapes on 1 artboard. This way, each shape will come in as its own pattern piece and anything you have drawn inside will be converted to be an internal marking. If there's an issue, it's usually because a shape isn't closed all the way or there are random stray overlapping points on the artboard.

Then you can File > Import > Adobe (AI/PDF) to bring it in as a pattern. CLO will automatically recognize that action as you trying to open a pattern file, so you don't have to export as a DXF from Illustrator--just keep it as an AI file or PDF. The ASTM/AAMA options are for programs like Gerber, where that's the universal file format.

I hope that answers your questions.

I am having issues importing a quilting pattern that is saved as an AI/PDF. I'm not sure that I can close all vector shapes, as it is a detailed pattern.  Do you have any other suggestions on how to import quilting patterns for insulators?

    Thanks!

Only if you convert to AI or PDF before. Not natively from CDR files.
