collision thickness adjustment?

I have an applique stitched underneath my body fabric.  The applique (shown in dark grey) should not be showing through to the face side of my fabric. I have adjusted the collision thickness of both the body and the applique pcs to 0.1 to 2.5 (I tried so many things) and I cannot resolve the issue. the correct appearance is the tan fabric with a zigzag around the applique (upper half of photo).  I am simulating in hi-res.  the fabric for both is a 4 way stretch jersey, the garment is a tight fitting compression top.

  For the strips on the underside, have you tried setting the sewing sublayer?  Select the sewing lines along the applique, check "Set Sublayer", in the property editor, then select "Back" because they are sewn back-to-back.  I find this often helps, but it's seldom mentioned.
