LOCKING GIZMO/DRAGGING MOVEMENT OF OBJECTS IN 3D SPACE?

Hi all, 

Does anyone know if there is a way to lock the gizmo so that you can be moved objects in a 'locked' direction? 

(rather like when you hold shift on an object in illustrator for example, it locks the dragging of an object in a linear direction)

It's very frustrating working in CLO, that moving objects around in 3D is done in an entirely free manner and you are forced to change views (top, front ect) in order to position objects properly around the avatar or in a scene. 

Note - I'm not talking about an 'align' function....just a dragging lock option.

  OK answered my own question. 

  In order to lock the position of a dragged object, you need to select the small arrows on the gizmo, then (indeed) hold down the shift key as you drag.
