freeze line segment?

In this youtube video, the fabric swatches  are secured in place by freezing a line segment (the red line at the top of each swatch appears to be frozen). Can someone explain to me how this is done? 
Supposedly, i can use the pin tool and double click a line segment in the 2D window but it does't work.  I am not able to select a line segment.

  Select the Pin (Box) tool and go to the 2D window > Hover over the Red Internal Line > (you may need to zoom in) > Double click on the Red Internal line where the blue dot appears (this will be where points of the mesh meet). The entire Internal line will now have pins at each point where the mesh points are
