How To Recreate Unusual Pleating
Hello, I'm trying to recreate this sash look, that is kind of deliberate messy looking. Anyone have any advice on different techniques to try?

Yes this can be done by tacking the cloth together with a loose thread length, (see how I use that technique below to pleat a complex pillow ) - and to get the simulation of the vertical pleats you may additionally lock that pleat creasing into the fabric by solidfying the simulation so you may still pull the cloth around without the pleat detail falling out of the cloth.
You may also use displacement maps and normal maps to get additional crease frequency detail in the surface mesh.
Anything is possible.

Thanks Otto, I'll give that a try. I've seen some people in real life fold and steam them into place. The steam function in Clo wouldn't work that way would it?

Yes steam could certainly work as well, but you might need to watch that the texels don't also distort for any fabric texture maps you place on top. In that last picture I posted there is some excess fabric using the steam function - but very subtle.
