Weird stretching and shrinking when using binding?

    Hi danichka

When  making binding it is usually cut perfectly straight on the bias. So the binding is hang trouble could around the corners of the Center Front of the neckline.

We would recommend breaking the binding into multiple pieces. 1 for each Center front and another that goes around the neckline.

If you do want this to be 1 continuous piece it would be better to Cut at a facing instead.

    1. To do this you can offset internal lines the desired amount from the pattern edge
    2. Use the Tracing too the Trace as Pattern
    3. Merge the two Center front and back neck pieces together.
    4. Sew onto the jacket and then Superimpose into place

    Hope this helps!

One slightly annoying thing about splitting the binding into a few pieces is that the angles of how those pieces end aren't computed right, so I end up having ugly looking "connections" (it seems to just always want to do a 90 degrees angle?

The best work around is then do create binding with pattern pieces instead of using the Binding Tool.

You will then have more control and be able to have any type of connection

So I'm not sure if I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, but I created a pattern with the exact length of the internal line - and it still creates horrible shrinking artifacts. This is only sewed on that one line, and the line matches the length of exactly. I don't see any reason it should shrink the garment so severely?

I also tried retracting the line and sewing the bind. I tried superimposing, e.t.c ... The garment won't start wobbling and glitching. Is there anything I can do?

It looks like what you want to create is a neck/collar band and not a binding.

From what I can see of the 2D window this looks like construction/pattern problems. Your Center Back neck should be a smooth curve and not come to a point. Along the Center front you want a smooth curve and not slight corners which your Segments Points are creating. I would recommend looking at a few kimono patterns to see pattern shapes and construction.

I made a simplified version of a kimono and attaching an image below for you to take a look at
