Laptop/Computer Recommendations
Hi! I am looking to upgrade to a new PC or Laptop solely to begin using Clo3D. Hoping to become a super-user and freelance with Clo, for both creative design and technical design.
I was planning on purchasing a Mac however now reading some of these forums it seems no one really recommends a Mac, whether its an iMac or Macbook. Anyone using a Mac and having success? Or should I stay away completely?
Also, with the thousands of options for Windows computers I'm a little lost. I know that Clo specifies their recommendations but it seems a lot of people are saying their recs are not accurate. I am mostly worried about rendering times and general performance within the program. I am planning to invest $2-3k in a new computer for this program and I want to ensure I will not need to upgrade later down the road or run into issues with the program not performing well because of my computer selection. I am a bit lost when it comes to computer/laptop lingo. I would prefer a laptop so that I can travel, however if a PC would completely trump a laptop in performance I would go that route. Would love if someone could provide some links or specific names of computers where I can just click and purchase!
Thank you so much in advance!

I use a Mac. Just make sure it's towards the top of the line in relation to the processor and the amount of RAM.

jamessimondesign no issues on rendering speeds? or any other features that you cannot use that others can in windows? just another thing I've read and trying to be clear!

Hi Katnatura and Jamessimondesign,
I have the same intent and questions as Kat, having spent months investigating refurbished PC's vs MacBook Pro's (Mid 2015 A1398) Laptops with an external Apple Cinema HD Display 23-inch (1920 x 1200) NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB graphics. MB Pro spec below:
https://everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.8-15-dual-graphics-mid-2015-retina-display-specs.html I understand this will meet CLO Recommended system requirements, but am unsure of the AMD Graphics efficiency.
And more recently the new M1 chipped MacBook Pro's (no mention here within system requirements/not officially supported YET) VS new *Intel chipped MB Pro which Apple are *phasing out/will not be supporting beyond 2023?
Katnatura, what did you end up investing in? Mac or PC?
James - Are you using a Laptop or Desktop? Could you offer the spec of your Mac that is working for you/model ID or serial #?
Will appreciate any insights from either of you or any other Mac users out there on spec recommendations.
Cheers!

Hi Natalie,
I ended up going with a PC. CLO does not recommend Mac and I have been using a PC with Opti and Gerber for the past few years so I felt comfortable with a PC. I ended up getting a loaded laptop from Xidax. The sales reps are extremely helpful if you call and show them the requirements page. Hope that helps!

Hi katnatura ,
How are you liking your Xidax? Are you able to fully utilize CLO? (ie, multiple garments in one file, motion, texture etc) I have a call with one of their sales reps here in a bit. Finding a new computer that doesn't cost an arm and a leg has been quite the process. :) Thanks in advance!
