How do you create white fur?
I've fiddled with the settings but it seems like silver-grey is the white most fur... is it possible to render a white fur material?

Yosun. If the fabric where the fur is being applied is snow white, then the hair strands will be the same color. Now, there will be shadowing which will probably create the effect of not being totally white. So, here the solution is lighting and having the texture of the material to be really glossy, so most light is reflected.

Hello Yosun, i had the same problem.
Your question push me to make some attemps. The bests are what you can see in the images below
I made that using the angora preset fur appling a pure white jpg texture to the pattern and pure white as color too.
In real life nothing is pure wite or pure black and the grey shadow is cast from the fur itself.
As Pablo suggested, play with the lighting if the rest od the garment is not damaged by that.I also tryied to put a piece in a white fabric (opacity set to 4 ) with light property assigned (color mult 40) in front of the fur piece ( Image n 1)
It's seem to me a little too much.

Hair - can transport light along the strand in the real world, which means to a degree, there is always an emission or absorption component to white fur, dependent on the direction of the light and the camera position. Because most render engines don't always deal with these types of rendering characteristics within a volume, you need to compensate, or fake what happens in the real world. It's possible to use a grey scale emission mask, to fake the effect so as the light changes direction the render and material shader adjusts.
The emission texture map.

Here (above) you can see the principle in play. As the lamp moves behind the fabric the strand fibers in the yarn crossing over can now been seen. As the lamp moves in front, the diffuse and dye color now is optimal, the weave crossover is negligible and the background in no longer illuminating the textile from behind.
If you don't introduce this component into fabric fibre (yarn), fur, hair, you don't get the light transport characteristic showing up.
