Smooth draping edges
I have been trying to smooth the edges of my gathering and it seems that nothing works! The particle distance of this garment is 5 mm, I've tried to change the Fabric Preset and I even downloaded some new cotton fabrics and the gatherings are still crooked.
Every time cotton folds its followed by a straight and continuous line.

One option would be to add additional internal lines extending from the fold and add a slight fold angle to them. This will then five the fabric a straight line to follow
The fabric chosen also looks much stiffer than the fabric you have shown in the reference image. Have you tried the Cotton Voile or Cotton Sateen? The stretch Poplin or chambray (with a texture change) would also be a good a good fabric to try
