Did you try cutting the pattern along what will be the fold line.  I would do that, then delete the unwanted half, and then unfold.

Not sure why this message is occurring (hopefully someone can explain), but sometimes it's hard to get at the last bit something.  I had one notch that I wanted to delete, and I couldn't seem to select it.

Why delete the points when you can just draw an internal line (shortcut G) in the middle and then right click>Cut and then delete one half?

If you have a reference associated within half of the pattern you are trying to delete, that is associated to the whole pattern piece (eg: notch point and sewing line), it will not do it, as that may destroy the other half with an associated ref. so it's kind of a failsafe that maybe looks at the symmetry line, and asymmetry preventing you from deleting that stray reference that may be important for another construction issue (eg: sewing). When that happens it can take longer to find the culprit point than actually taking a bit of drastic action and creating a new symmetry point, deleting the stray point and unfolding a new half, and redoing the sewing line to the notches to get a whole pattern again.
