distributing internal lines between segments

hello i am trying to make an elastic waistband around shorts but when I try to distribute internal lines on the pattern the lines aren't straight they get crooked but on the youtube tutorial they are straight, why is that happening? i posted a photo of the problem below thanks for your assistance.

  This might be caused my not having the entire line selected on both sides of the Segment Points.  You must make sure you have the entire Top and entire Bottom selected
