Windows

  • Library

    - The Library window is located on the furthest left.

    - Open and use default assets provided by CLO such as Avatar, Garment, Trim, and more.
    Add frequently used folders to the Library window and access directly in CLO.

    - To add a frequently used folder to the Library window, select the Add button and choose the folder to be added from the File Browser. Then, click Select Folder.

    - Add the Quickstart_Files folder which contains Quick Start exercise files.

    -Download exercise files here.


  • 3D Window / 2D Window / Object Browser / Property Editor

    - The 3D window is on the Library window’s right. In the 3D window, you may load Avatar and Dummy to drape and move 3D Garments.

    - The 2D window is on the 3D window’s right. Load DXF files to edit and sew Patterns.

    - In the Object Browser, you may see all items in the 3D and 2D windows. The Fabric tab is selected by default.

    - Properties related to the selected item from the Object Browser appear in the Property Editor. Check and edit properties.

  • Buttons at the Bottom

    - You may find three buttons at the right bottom corner of the software.

    - Click the button in the middle to hide the 2D window and only show the 3D window. Click the button on the right to hide the 3D window and only show the 2D window. To see both 3D and 2D windows, click the button on the left.

View Control – 3D

  • Zoom In/ Zoom Out 3D Window

    - Roll up and down the mouse cursor wheel to zoom out and in the 3D window respectively.

  • Pan 3D Window

    - Hold down the mouse cursor wheel and drag to pan the 3D window.

  • Rotate 3D Window

    - Hold down and drag the right button on the mouse to rotate the 3D window in 360° and view every nook and corner of the 3D Garment.

  • View Control Menus

    - Use the menus related to view control to see front, back and more sides of the Avatar in the 3D window.

    - You may access the menus in the right-click pop-up menu. Right click an empty place in the 3D window to access the right-click pop-up and choose Front, Back, Left, Right and more as needed.

    - Memorize the shortcuts next to each menu for more efficient work.

View Control – 2D


- Roll up and down the mouse cursor wheel to zoom out and in the 2D window respectively.

- Hold down the mouse cursor wheel and drag to pan the 2D window. 

Simulation


- Use the mceclip3.png Simulate tool to apply gravity to the 3D window.

- When the Simulate tool is selected from the 3D toobar, all unfixed Patterns fall down to the ground as gravity is applied to the 3D window.

- If you click and drag Patterns while the Simulation is activated, they move like real fabrics.

- However, if you click and drag Patterns while the Simulation is deactivated, they move rigidly as a whole as gravity is no longer applied to the 3D window.

Arrangement


- For faster and easier Simulation, arrange Patterns around an Avatar.

- You may click and drag to arrange Patterns in the 3D window, but use Arrangement Points for faster work. Hover the mouse over the second icon in the Vertical Toggle Menu in the 3D window and select  Show Arrangement Points icon.

- When using the Arrangement Points, select the Pattern to be placed and then click the desired Arrangement Point.

- When Patterns are arranged with the Arrangement Point, it is placed in curve around an Avatar.
To turn off the Arrangement Points, select the Show Arrangement Points icon again.

- You may click and drag to move Patterns even after placing them using the Arrangement Points.

Sewing


- To join Patterns, they have to be connected with Sewing Lines.

- Use the  Segment Sewing or the > Free Sewing tool from the 2D toolbar to establish Sewing Lines on Patterns.

  • Segment Sewing

    - Use the Segment Sewing tool to sew segments between two points.

    - Click each segments to be sewn to establish a pair of Sewing Lines.

    - When establishing the Sewing Lines, be mindful of Directional Notches as they should not be twisted.

    - After creating the Sewing Lines between Patterns, Patterns are joined in the 3D window when Simulated.

  • Free Sewing

    - Use the  Free Sewing tool freely establish Sewing Lines along Pattern outlines and Internal Lines, arbitrary deciding start and end points of the Sewing Lines.

    - Click four times in total to create a pair of Free Sewing Lines. Click on a Pattern outline or an Internal Line to create a start point and drag the mouse to decide the direction of the Sewing Line. Then, click again to complete the first half of the Sewing Line. Then, create the other half of the Sewing Line on Pattern outline or Internal Line which the first half of the Sewing Line is to be attached to.

    - Be mindful to not twist Directional Notches when using the Free Sewing tool as well.

    - When the Simulation is activated after creating Sewing Lines, sewn Patterns are joined in the 3D window.

Brief Draping Procedure in CLO

  • Import DXF file

    - To create and drape a 3D Garment, please load Patterns created in a 2D CAD program.

    - Double click the folder with practice files that you added to the Library window and double click the DXF file to open. When a pop-up window appears, click OK.

  • Duplicate Half Patterns

    - When there are only half Patterns, you must duplicate to create other halves.

    - Select all Patterns and right click to access the right-click pop-up menu. Select the Symmetry Pattern (with Sewing) menu from the pop-up menu. When Patterns are duplicated with above options, any Pattern modification and added Sewing Lines are automatically reflected to symmetric Patterns.

  • Arrangement

    - Use the Arrangement Points to place Patterns around an Avatar.

    - When symmetric Patterns are placed on symmetric Arrangement Points, their pairs are arranged automatically on the symmetric Arrangement Points.

  • Sewing

    - Use the Segment Sewing tool or the  Free Sewing tool interchangeably to establish Sewing Lines.

    - When there is no points on the segment to be sewn, use the Segment Sewing tool. However, when there are points on the segment to be sewn, use the Free Sewing tool.

    - Please check twisted parts of Sewing Lines while establishing them.

  • Simulation

    - Select the mceclip3.png Simulate tool to complete the Garment as Patterns fall and drape on the Avatar. Closer the Patterns are placed around the Avatar, faster the Simulation is.

Check Fit

  • Change Pose

    - An Avatar with both arms open is used to easily drape Garments. When the 3D Garment is completed draped on an Avatar or a Dummy, apply the Attention pose to the Avatar to check fit.

    - To change the Avatar’s pose, load the Pose file from the Pose folder in the Library window.
    Be careful to select the folder for the same Avatar currently in use to correctly load matching Avatar. Double click the Attention Pose file.

  • Fix Neckline and Armhole Length

    - In the 3D window, you can check the 3D Garment’s neckline and armhole are stretched. To prevent the stretch of the neckline and the armhole due to the weight of the Garment, apply seam tapes around the neckline and armhole.

    - Select the  Seam Taping tool from the 2D toolbar and click the neckline and armhole to apply seam tapes.

    - Once the mceclip6.png Simulation is activated, you may check the neckline and armhole are no longer stretched.

  • Draw Avatar Tape

    - To check fit accurately, the 3D Garment’s shoulder lines must match with the Avatar’s shoulder line.

    - To see Avatar’s shoulder line clearly, use the Avatar Tape function to draw avatar tapes on the Avatar. Select the  Linear Avatar Tape tool from the 3D toolbar and hover the mouse over the Avatar. Then, click a start point and an end point to create an Avatar tape.

    - To create an Avatar Tape around a part of the Avatar, use the  Circumference Avatar Tape tool. When using this tool, to assign the start, directional, and end points, click three times.

  • Align Shoulder Lines

    - Activate the mceclip6.png Simulate tool and drag the 3D Garment to match its shoulder lines to the Avatar’s.

    - Repeat the same procedure to match shoulder lines for both sides.

Improve Garment Completeness

  • Apply Fabric

    - Use appropriate fabric to check fit correctly.

    - Click and drag the desired Fabric file to the Pattern from the Library window.

    - Activate the mceclip6.png Simulate tool to confirm the change in the 3D Garment’s silhouette.

  • Use Hi-Res Garment Tool

    - Use the  Hi-Res Garment tool to simply improve the Garment completeness.
    Use this tool to decrease the Particle Distance, Add’l"l Thickness – Collision, and Skin Offset values at once.

    - Change the Simulation Quality to Complete – Nonlinear to accurately calculate and emulate fabric properties.

    - Click OK to apply the changes to the 3D Garment.

    - Once these settings are applied, depending on the computer specification, Simulation may seem slowed down. Thus, fine-tuning Garments at this stage is not recommended.
