Detecting Simulation Instability
Finding the Source of the Instability
Fixing Deformation of the Garment Due to Sewing Lines
Fixing Deformation of the Garment Due to Incorrect Layering of Patterns
- This exercise will cover how to detect and resolve problems that may occur during Simulation.
- Open the file, Simulation Instability A Portion of the Garment, for this exercise. (Download the practice files before starting this tutorial.)
- To do so, navigate to the CLO Tutorial folder, which was previously added in the Introduction to CLO tutorial, within the Library. Go to E_Fixes, then a_Simulation Instability A Portion of the Garment. Double click on the file, Simulation Instability A Portion of the Garment, or drag and drop it into either the 3D or 2D Window.
Detecting Simulation Instability
- Turn on Simulate. Check for signs of unstable Simulation, usually indicated by layers poking through one another or portions of the 3D Garment shaking uncontrollably.
Finding the Source of the Instability
- Strengthen the Garment
- When the garment is tangled together, Strengthen all of the Patterns to flatten the garment. To Strengthen the Patterns, select all of them in the 2D Window with theTransform Pattern Tool from the 2D Toolbar. Right click on one of them and select Strengthen from the pop-up menu. The Patterns will appear orange in the 3D Window to indicate they have been Strengthened.
- When all of the Patterns have been flattened out it is easier to pinpoint the problem, such as an incorrectly sewn seam, on the 3D Garment. - Simulate
- ActivateSimulation.
Fixing Deformation of the Garment Due to Sewing Lines
- Twisted or misplaced Sewing Lines are the most likely culprit of bunching and contorting of the 3D Garment. To learn how to remove them, reference the Fixing Deformation of the Garment tutorial.
Fixing Deformation of the Garment Due to Incorrect Layering of Patterns
- Incorrectly layered Patterns are another cause of Simulation instability. Unstrengthen the Patterns and check the unstable parts of the garment. To Unstrengthen the Patterns, select all of them in the 2D Window with the Transform Pattern Tool from the 2D Toolbar. Right click on one of them and select Unstrengthen from the pop-up menu. The Patterns will no longer appear orange in the 3D Window.
- To learn how to fix this, reference the Simulation Instability – Layered Patterns and Gizmo Tool tutorial.
