Measuring flat in 3D window?
As a Tailor turned Pattern maker and Designer, I have a problem understanding how to get the msm in 3D window (as an old time skirt measurer would).
Is there any way to get the distance msm between back and front on Avatar on actual draping? Pls see pic attached.

It is correct that "air" space cannot be measured with any garment tap. But from ground to a designated point on the avatar, we can use Height Measure (Avatar). If someone on here has a better solution, please don't hesitate to comment.
Rotate to the camera view front (shortcut 2). Use the tool to mark the hem on the CF. Then do the same at the back for CB (shortcut for camera view back = 8). Calculate the difference between both values.

I solved it as you suggested, but I would love to get that funktion in for the garment aswell in the future!
