Workflow to export rigged avatars and garments to Unreal Engine (UE4) for real time fabric sim
I have some garments designed in CLO that I need to import into UE4 along with the rigged, animated avatars so that I can use UE4's real time cloth simulation to simulate the cloth movement when the characters move.
Would it be possible to provide a detailed explanation of the workflow required to do this please? Or even better a video tutorial?
In order to be able to use UE4's cloth simulation the garment needs to be imported into UE4 along with the rigged avatar as a single skeletal mesh with the garment in a separate material slot.
I have had various goes at trying to do this (either trying to export FBX or OBJ directly from CLO into UE4, or into Blender first) but none of them have worked. Either the garment fails to import into UE4 or the skeleton is not imported, meaning that the character can't be animated and the collisions won't work if the fabric is set as cloth simulation.
Would you be able to explain how this can be done please?

Hi Clo Team, I would also like to know how to do this as I have tried similar methods and have had no success.
Another user suggested exporting the model and animation as an Alembic file then importing into UE4, however due to the size of my Alembic file, UE4 crashes upon import.
Mdinoulis, not sure if this will help, but this may point you in the right direction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oL9Orrx8m0A

I'm still struggling with this and any help would be appreciated.
I have tried using Alembic files but it's not working fully. I can import the garment animation into UE4 as an alembic but all of the texture and material information is lost. Importing the avatars as alembics doesn't seem to work properly at all.
I basically have two scenarios that I would like to achieve:
1) Import garment animations (with or without avatars) along with all material and texture information
2) Import Avatar and Garment (with or without animations) in a way that allows the garments to have cloth simulation applied and for it to properly collide with the avatar's body

Any luck with this? I am also facing the same challenges and looking for advice.
