remain fabric material straight and flat

    Hi Kazuyo!

I sent you the detailed guide via email, but I also wanted to share the rigid material can be used for these cases to everyone in the Community.

Please find the fabric material here: www.clo-set.com/Item/Index/ece369e7736f4f3bb37fa639869275c1

One thing I would like to stress is that, when a fabric material has high Stretch or Bending value, the fabric itself may move slowly. Please be noted that it is not the Simulation slowed down, it is the fabric!

    Thanks!

I'm sharing this wonderful work created by Kazuyo! Thanks for letting me share this with the community @kazuyo.

I have a design that requires rigid material and the parameters in the preset zfab didn't work.  I need the rigidity of cardboard.  The product is leather, which will be glued to a rigid material like plexiglass in certain sections.  I tried the linked parameter and it still blew out into a round shape when connected to other materials that were more flexible.  Is there a different parameter I can use for a setting that would give me cardboard-like material?

    Hello hcmfg

    Are you prototyping a handbag?

I am not sure you are able to create a fabric like cardboard,

since often use rigid materials and glue to parts of handbag,

I have developed tricks, using Pin tool, Freeze pattern, Clone layered and OBJ and Avatar I created,

depend on the shape I envisioned.

Please check 3D Virtual Samples I created.   https://www.kazuyonakano.jp/3d-designer-english

Yes, it's for handbag design.  I need to simulate materials like bonded leather and shoe sole material.  I don't really need cardboard, but the rigidity of some of these materials we use can be like cardboard when glued together.  In some cases, we do use polycarbonate to stiffen bags, so that's why I mentioned plexiglass.  I think maybe the key is to learning about layering materials properly in CLO and I can achieve close to what I need.  I'm still fiddling with it, but need to learn more.

@hcmfg, do you have a picture of the component that you would like to create?

@Erica, this is not my bag, but I am working on a smaller bag that's very similar to this one.  My bag is not veg leather, but softer leather and the flap will be reinforced with book board.  Basically the same stuff you would find in a 3 ring binder cover.  So it will be quite hard and flat when finished. I do a lot of hard bags like this and I just am not finding good options for reinforced bags.

I do also make a lot of veg tan leather goods, where I need the strong material without reinforcement.  I have tried all the parameters in CLO and just can't figure out how to make these firm materials.

Thanks for sharing the example. So, if you want to make hardware like rings, I advise you two different approaches:

    1. You can create one in CLO > export as an OBJ > import it as an OBJ
This way, you can make sure the hardware are firm and rigid.

    2. Or, you can FREEZE the patterns while simulating other patterns to maintain the stiffness. Maintain it frozen until the construction is completed.
Then, before rendering or taking the snapshot, unfreeze it. (Don't Simulate as it will distort the patterns as its physical properties are applied.)

Thanks, but I need to make firm, reinforced fabric or leather, not hardware.

I still need to learn a little more about what you are talking about with hardware, but that's not the current problem we're discussion.  I can create a new thread for that later if I need to.

So, you are trying to achieve "which will be glued to a rigid material like plexiglass in certain sections. " this right?
try to FREEZE the patterns for the "plexiglass" parts. It would be much easier for me to help you out if you can share the project file and the exact detail you are trying to create!

Thanks for offering to help.  I can't share the actual file I'm working on, but I can probably draw something up in the next couple days that I can share here.  I'll post something up toward the end of the week.  Thanks again for your help, I'm looking forward to it.

    @hcmfg

On the fold lines add an internal line. Use soft cloth in these places. In other parts, use a hard cloth.

@vadsuar, thanks for sharing the tip!!

@hcmfg, you can certainly try the tip suggested by vadsura.

However, if you can, please share us the file :) There are multiple ways to express certain effects in CLO and the application differs by how the actual bag is supposed to be manufactured. Once you share us your file, we can look into it :) Thanks!

@erica this file is no longer downloadable can you send a new link for rigid material or can you tell the parameter? I need to make some hardware and i need the material you use for belt buckles.

    Not working

    Hi Erica,

I am struggling with this as well, if you can send another link for the file that would be great!

Please can you post another link to the stiff fabric or an alternative? Many thanks.
