4 way grain line?
I see no instructions for setting a pattern piece's grainline to 4 ways (or no grainline). I see a 4 way grain setting in the print layout function (property editor), however, setting that to 4 way does not actually rotate any pieces to more efficiently nest. Do I set 2 grainlines for each piece (one horizontal, one vertical)? Do I need to select a fabric with no grain, a non-woven? Do I simply delete the grain lines? The "delete texture" option is not deleting my current grainlines. I created a new fabric for the pieces but the incorrect grain line has remained and cannot be deleted. I am editing a pattern from CLO CONNECT. Thank you!

Hi abbymclean,
Grainlines are connected to the pattern pieces and will remain the way they are set regardless of fabric changes. Any texture rotation you do regarding the maps on a fabric are separate from the grainlines.
It is not possible to completely delete out a grainline from a pattern piece or have multiple grainlines on the same piece. There will always be an angle and the default is 0°. You can edit the grainline manually with the Edit Texture tool by clicking on and rotating only on the pattern piece in question (instead of using the flat black gizmo for entire map rotation), or selecting a pattern piece and editing the grainline with precise input in the Property Editor.

Building on this question - I'm not sure I understand how the 4-way grainline in print layout works. I've tried to use it to nest pieces for greater efficiency, but it doesn't seem to rotate the pieces to achieve that. Is the 4 way grainline direction in print layout supposed to auto rotate for best use or is there another purpose in this mode?

madeapparelservices and abbymclean I'm having the same problem that no matter what grain direction I choose in PRINT LAYOUT mode, my pattern pieces do not rotate for a more efficient nesting. were you able to resolve this issue or find a work around?

@evoncassier No resolution yet that I've experienced. This module needs a lot of improvement. For now, I try to set the GL in the simulation window before I go to Print Layout. Then in Print Layout I set the fabric width and match the GL to what I did in the Simulation window. I do this for each fabrication first and then run the layout. It will rotate the pieces for the best efficiency, but if one doesn't fit (as it's looks on screen), it won't rotate it. We should also be able to decide if we want the font parallel to the GL, and in all cases the font should scale to stay within the pattern piece. Presently, the font will run outside the pattern pieces. I have to write them all in before cutting. Big waste of time. Anyway, I feel your frustration with this module :)
