How can I create ostrich feathers on clo?

Jennifer, this is definitely a job that has to be done with the Fur shader that is part of CLO. To get the shape you need, you will have to play with all the available settings and maps.

I am attaching a quick test to produce fur from the sides of the strip I made and not from the front and back. Also, have a look at the reading I am attaching here.

Hey Pablo, Ive tried to follow everything you sent me and for some reason the fur is not showing up on any side even when I have the render display on.

I used the sides to try and adjust everything the sam way you shared nut still nothing.. Is there anyway Clo can make a video on this to help? I've tried to search youtube but i cant find anything that can help me.It's  also frustrating because the feathers are a major part of my designs. Let me know if you have any other suggestions

Jennifer, can you share which settings you are using with the Fur on Front Back and Side?

    Hi there Jennifer,

I also wanted to create designs with Ostrich feathers, so the solution I came up with was to create a multi layer "fringe" and add ostrich feather trim picture as a texture. I am still working on creating the volume / better textures and playing around with few different normal and displacement maps to get a more realistic feel, but this is the overall idea so far. I can post updates of my progress if you are interested. Let me know.

    Hi Amal,

Can you explain how you created the layer fringes?

    Hi Nathalie,

    Sure!

    1. Measure the length of the piece where you would like to attach the fringe to and make an additional rectangular shape with the same length. The width is up to you, however long you would like your fringe to be. Attach the fringe to the shape with sewing.

    2. Make an internal line shorter that the fringe width.

    3. Offset that internal line

    4. Select all internal lines and cut.

    5. This is how it looks after Clo makes the cut

    6. Simulate and copy additional layers of the fringe on top

    Hope that helps!

I also tried the fur render on the fringe and this is the result. Still needs tweaking and perfecting, but its getting there.

You are very welcome! I also did this kind of stripped feathers as embellishment.
