Creating a Realistic Print or Plaid from Vector Artwork
Hey everyone!
I'm not sure if this happens to anyone else, but sometimes I just want to mock up a print or plaid quickly, change the scale etc, and then move on to more time consuming (realistic) methods. This is the quick and dirty version:
1. Create your vector plaid or print in illustrator/photoshop (or whatever)
2. In CLO - Apply the nearest fabric to your design from the fabric Library (in this case, I chose Oxford Cotton)
3. In the property Editor, replace the texture image with your vector print
4. Use the Texture Transformation Tool to get your print scaling where you want it
Note: this is important to do before messing with the normal and specular maps, because if you add everything right away, then they will scale together.
Tip: in the Fabric Property Editor, you can expand the Texture Transformation drop-down to see how much you have re-scaled your print.
5. Click the open button next to Normal Map in the Property Editor > Navigate to the Normal Map of the Fabric you applied > Mine is Cotton_Oxford_FCL1PSC01_NRM
6. Increase the Intensity to 100+
You should be able to see the 3D texture of the fabric. It's not as pronounced as if you used photoshop to layer & multiply your print on a scan of the texture, but it's a really good start if you're mocking something up!

The knot on the belt is beautiful. Better about this lesson had to be done. A beautiful plaid can be made online.
