I have my avatar with the design on them - how do i then get the pattern from that?

  The statement is not clear to me, I am assuming you drew onto the avatar with the 3D pen? You ahve to use the flattening tool to generate pattern pieces from it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nKllTXUtP0
