The Seamline Rip Tool allows part or all of a sewing line to be designated as a rip area, and simulates the effect of the actual fabric opening and fraying.
After creating an Seamline Rip on a sewing line of a 3D garment or 2D pattern, adjust the Rip and Fray properties to create effects such as seam rupture, damaged garments, and worn fabric details.
Create Seamline Rip
Partial Creation
A Seamline Rip can be created on a Sewing Line.

Select the Seamline Rip Tool from the 3D Toolbar.

Move the mouse over the sewing line where the Rip object will be created on the 3D garment or 2D pattern.
→ A Preview Point appears at the position where creation is available.

Click on the sewing line to set the Start Point.
→ The Start Point is also displayed at the corresponding position on the Paired Sewing Line.

Move the mouse along the same sewing line.
→ A Preview Line is displayed from the Start Point to the current position.

Click another position on the sewing line to set the End Point.
→ A green Rip object is created between the Start Point and End Point.

The created Seamline Rip remains selected.
→ The Seamline Rip properties are displayed in the Property Editor.
Batch Creation

Activate the Sewing Tool and select all Sewing Lines where Seamline Rips will be created.

Right-click to open the Sewing Line Context Menu.

Run Add Seamline Rip.
- Select the Edit Rip tool and confirm that Seamline Rips have been created to fully cover the selected Sewing Lines
📝 Note:
- Seamline Rip can only be created on a Sewing Line. A single Rip object can only be created within one Sewing Line and cannot continue across another connected Sewing Line.
- When a Rip object is created by the user, a Paired Seamline Rip is also created and synchronized on the opposite Sewing Line corresponding to the source Sewing Line.
- However, the properties that control ripping can be set individually. A Rip object cannot be created multiple times on the same Vertex of the same Sewing Line.
Edit Seamline Rip
Created Rip objects can be edited by adjusting their length, moving their position, deleting them, or editing their properties.

Select the Edit Rip Tool.

Select the Rip object to edit.
→ The Start Point, End Point, and Line of the selected Rip are highlighted.
→ The Paired Seamline Rip is also displayed.

Drag the Start Point or End Point to adjust the length.

Drag the Rip Line to move its position along the same Sewing Line.
- Release the mouse button to confirm the change.
📝 Note:
- When the length or position of a Rip is changed, subsequent simulation is performed based on the updated area.
- If simulation is run after deleting a Rip, the previously ripped section is merged again.
Set Seamline Rip Properties
When an Seamline Rip is selected, Rip and Fray properties can be set in the Property Editor.
Rip Properties
Rip Properties define the conditions for the specified Seamline Rip area to tear in real time in response to force applied during simulation.

When simulation is run after turning Activate Off, the previously ripped area is merged again while keeping the Rip object. |
Rip Resistance |
Rip Resistance controls the seam’s resistance to tearing. It is calculated internally from Yield Strength, the force threshold at which damage begins, and Damage Rate, the rate at which damage accumulates over time. Lower values make the seam easier to tear; higher values increase its resistance to sustained force. |
Fray Properties
Fray Properties are used to represent fabric wear or fraying around the outline of the ripped Seamline.

Produce Rip Result
During simulation, force above the threshold can be applied to tear the prepared Seamline Rip area.

Prepare a garment with a Rip applied.

Select the Seamline Rip object, then turn on the Activate in the Property Editor.

Run simulation.

Apply tension to the sewing line using an external force such as Pinching.

When the tension satisfies the Rip Resistance condition, the sewing line is ripped.

Check the ripped result and the Fray expression.
- While simulation is running, adjust the Fray properties to refine the visual result.
📝 Note:
- If the length or position of the Rip is changed, or if the Rip is deleted during simulation, the running simulation stops.
- Rip and Fray property values can be changed during simulation.
- If the result is not as intended, use the Edit Rip Tool to adjust the length or position, then run simulation again.
Restore the Ripped Area
The ripped state can be restored to the original sewn state.

Select the Seamline Rip.

Check the Restore on Deactivation option.

Turn off Activate.

Run simulation.
→ The ripped sewing line is restored to its original state.
📝 Note:
- Restore Rip restores the ripped result while keeping the Rip object.
Delete Rip deletes the Rip object itself.
