Bond two pattern pieces together by adding glue to the entire pattern or a designated area.
This feature allows secondary pieces like pockets, labels, or reinforcements to follow the movement and deformation of a base pattern during simulation.
The Glue tools provide multiple methods for securing overlapping patterns, ranging from automatic boundary detection to free-hand painting and ghost-shape placement.
Glue Fill
Automatically detects the boundaries of a pattern or an internal shape to apply glue. Placing the secondary pattern in the 2D or 3D window defines the glue area between the patterns.
In the 2D Window
-
Position the secondary pattern (the piece to be glued) directly on top of the base pattern.
-
Ensure the patterns overlap exactly where you want the bond to be established.
-
Select the
Glue Fill tool and click on the secondary pattern or the secondary pattern’s internal shape(if any).
→ The overlap establishes the bonding relationship between the two layers.
- Move the secondary outside the base pattern (optional).
In the 3D Window
-
If the patterns are not draped, position the secondary pattern over the base pattern.
-
If the garment is draped, then the secondary pattern must be draped over or under the base pattern (in contact or close proximity).
-
Select the
Glue Fill tool and click on the secondary pattern.
→ The glue will be applied to the respective contact area between the layers.
Set Options
-
Set the mode if needed.
Add
Applies glue to the whole pattern shape or its internal shape. Subtract
Completely removes glue from the pattern.
Glue Brush
Allows for free-hand drawing of glue onto the pattern. The tool requires a layered relationship between two patterns to function.
In the 2D Window
-
Position the secondary pattern (the piece to be glued) directly on top of the base pattern.
-
Ensure the patterns overlap in the area where you want the glue to be applied.
Select the
Glue Brush tool and click and drag on the pattern to paint the glue area, which appears as an orange highlight.
Once the desired area is painted, the secondary pattern will follow the movement and deformation of the painted area on the base fabric during simulation.
In the 3D Window
-
If the patterns are not draped, position the secondary pattern over the base pattern.
-
If the garment is draped, then the secondary pattern must be draped over or under the base pattern (in contact or close proximity).
- Select the
Glue Brush tool and click and drag on the pattern to paint the glue area, which appears as an orange highlight.
Set Options
-
Set the options if needed.
Type
Over
Applies glue to the underside of the secondary pattern piece to bond with the pattern beneath it. Under
Applies glue to the top surface of the base pattern piece to bond with the pattern above it. Mode
Add
Paint new adhesive areas onto the pattern surfaces. Subtract
Use this mode to partially remove existing glue by painting over the previously highlighted orange areas. Size
Allows you to adjust the width of the glue stroke for more precise or broader application.
Sticker
Mimics a real-world sticking process by allowing you to "pick up" a pattern piece and use a ghost pattern shape to precisely target and apply it to a specific area.
Select the
Sticker tool in the 2D window.
Click on the desired secondary pattern piece (e.g., a pocket or label) to select it.
A ghost pattern shape (transparent preview) will appear and follow your cursor.
Move the ghost shape over the base pattern to target the desired placement area.
Click at the specific location on the base pattern to "stick" the piece in place.
View the results immediately in the 3D window as the pattern conforms to the target area.
