Create personalized knit swatches by modifying wales, courses, and yarn thickness; freely customize and edit knit design with available stitch types.

Open Knit Swatch Editor

1. Select a fabric from the Object Browser, and change the Material Type to Knitwear within the Property Editor.

2. Click the Open Knit Swatch Editor icon to open the Knit Swatch Editor. 

   ✨Tip: The 2D window will be replaced by the Editor. You can switch the window by clicking the bottom tab.

   
   

Navigation

1. Use the mouse and keyboard shortcuts to adjust the view in the editor.

   Action	Outcome
   Press and drag the middle scroll wheel	Pan the view.
   Rotate the middle scroll wheel forward and backward	Zoom in and out of the view.
   Press the right -click and drag	Freely rotate the view around the center.
   Right-click	Show a menu to select preset views.

Display

1. Change the Display Type on the toggle bar.  

   Display Type	Outcome
   Thick Yarn	Show the yarn with the actual thickness and a plain color.
   Thin Yarn	Show the yarn with an automatic thin thickness to to see the stitch structure more clearly.
   Random Color Yarn	Show the yarn with the actual thickness and a random color per course, to better follow the yarn path easily.

2. Click Flat View to enable a temporary view mode that stretches and flattens the swatch. Click Flat View again to disable it and return the swatch to its relaxed, simulated state.

Settings

1. Set the swatch design repeat's size and the final output size of the swatch on the 3D garment after simulation and shrinkage.

   Knit Swatch	Outcome
   Wales Amount	Set the number of columns in a swatch repeat.
   Courses Amount	Set the number of rows in a swatch repeat.
   Yarn Thickness (mm)	Set the diameter of the yarn.
   Gauge	Set the needles per inch.  Click the expand icon ▶ to view the sub-options.
   	Link	Link for auto-measurements from the current.
   	Unlink	Unlink to input custom swatch measurements in the sub-options below. 📝Note: When the Gauge and its sub-options are unlinked, the Gauge value serves only as a reference number.
   	Wales Per Inch	Set the number of columns per inch after shrinkage.
   	Courses Per Inch	Set the number of rows per inch after shrinkage.
   	Fabric Thickness (mm)	Set the fabric thickness after shrinkage.

After adjusting Wales Amounts or Course Amounts, the swatch size updates in sync. The Set Swatch Repeat button has been removed starting from version 2026.1. 
 

1. Set the knit simulation parameters after editing the Knit Stitch if needed.

   Simulation	Outcome
   Horizontal Tension	Controls the tightness of horizontally ribbed structures. Example: alternating wales of front knit and back knit.
   Vertical Tension	Controls the tightness of vertically ribbed structures. Example: alternating courses of front knit and back knit.
   Flattening	Controls the strength of a flattening force.

Select

1. Select Select/Edit (Shortcut: S) from the toolbar. A tool for selecting stitches in different ways for further editing.
   ✨Tip:  Show a shortcut list in the software when hovering the mouse over icon. 
    

2. General Selection: Select individual or multiple stitches using combined mouse and keyboard controls.

   Action	Outcome
   Click	Select a stitch.
   Shift + Click	Add stitches to the existing selection.
   Alt + Click	Remove the clicked stitch from the selection.
   Ctrl + A	Select all stitches simultaneously.
   ESC / Click the Empty Space	Clear all active selections.

    

3.  Row/Column/Wale Selection

   Action	Outcome
   R + Click	Select an entire row.
   	Press Shift + R + Click to add more rows to the selection.
   	Press Alt + R + Click to remove a row from the selection.
   C + Click	Select an entire vertical column.
   	Press Shift + C + Click to add more columns to the selection.
   	Press Alt + C + Click to remove a column from the selection.
   W + Click	Select an entire vertical column following the actual fabric wale structure.
   	Press Shift + W + Click to add more wales to the selection.
   	Press Alt  + W + Click to remove a wale from the selection.

    

4.  Box Range Selection

   Action	Outcome
   Click and Drag	Select a box range of stitches across a large area.
   	Press Shift + Click and Drag to add a box area to the current selection.
   	Press Alt + Click and Drag to remove a box area from the current selection.

Edit

1. Select Select/Edit (Shortcut: S) from the toolbar. A tool for selecting stitches in different ways for further editing.
    

2. After selecting the target stitches, apply modifications using the following controls:

   Action	Outcome
   Ctrl + C	Copy the selected stitches.
   Ctrl + X	Cut the selected stitches.
   Ctrl + V	Paste the copied/cut stitches. ✨Tip:  While managing your paste preview, you can: Press Tab to center the paste preview on your cursor. Press the Arrow Keys (↑ ↓ ← →) to nudge and shift the preview position, then press Enter/Click to paste. Stamp Mode: To paste the copied stitch layout repeatedly, press Ctrl + V, then press and hold Shift while clicking across target areas.
   Ctrl + R	Mirror paste the stitches. ✨Tip: Tab (Center Paste), Arrow Keys (Nudge), and Shift (Stamp Mode) functions are also supported during Mirror Paste operations.
   Press and Drag on Selection	Select and move the stitches.
   Del / Backspace	Reset all selections to Front Stitch.
   Ctrl + Click on Toolbar	Fill the selected stitches with the active stitch style.
   Alt + Click	Enable Stitch Eyedropper. Click an existing stitch style on the knit swatch to sample it, which automatically activates that corresponding stitch tool.

    

Knit Stitch

1. Select a stitch type from the toolbar, or press the shortcut Q to instantly activate the Front Knit tool (or your last selected stitch type).
    

2. Click, or click and drag across the knit swatch for live stitch painting and editing.

   ✨Tip:  While using your mouse to paint, press Tab to rapidly cycle forward through the tools within the primary stitch painting group (Front Knit to Tuck). Press Shift + Tab to cycle through the group in reverse order.
    

   Stitch	Outcome
   Front Knit (Q)	Front Knit
   Back Knit	Purl Knit
   Front Miss	Miss Loop in Front and Float in Back
   Back Miss	Miss Loop in Back and Float in Front
   Tuck	Tuck Stitch
   Transfer (T)	Transfer selected stitches to create a Lace and Pointelle design. Drag left or right to transfer selected stitches to neighboring wales.
   Cable (K)	Create cable structures using a stamp mode.  Set the following properties to configure the cable structures.
   	Number of Over Stitches	Set the stitch number of the top-layered strand.
   	Number of Under Stitches	Set the stitch number of the bottom-layered strand.
   	Lean	Set the cable lean direction to left or right. (Shortcut: Tab)
   	Over Stitch	Set the specific stitch style applied to the top cable strand.
   	Under Stitch	Set the specific stitch style applied to the bottom cable strand.

3. Click Simulate (Shortcut: Spacebar) to start the simulation, which applies the shrinkage effect along with the Gauge, Wales Per Inch, Courses Per Inch, Fabric Thickness, and Simulation settings to the knit swatch.
   ✨Tip: While simulation is activated, you can edit the knit stitch and get the live update with the shrinkage result.
    
4. Click Simulate (Shortcut: Spacebar) to pause the simulation. 

Apply Knit Swatch to the 3D Garment

1. Click Apply to map the knit swatch results onto the garment within the 3D Window; or
    
2. Click Apply & Close to map the knit swatch results onto the garment within the 3D Window and automatically close the Knit Swatch Editor, or
    
3. Click Close to close the Knit Swatch Editor.
    

Reset Knit Stitch and Settings

1.  Click Reset to restore all values and revert to the default stitch designs.

📝Note: Applying results from the Knit Swatch Editor will automatically hide Yarn Thickness, Wales Per Inch, Courses Per Inch, and Fabric Thickness parameters within the Property Editor. To modify these values, you must access them inside the Knit Swatch Editor.
 

✨Tip: To undo or redo your actions, select Main Menu ▶ Edit ▶ Undo/Redo, or use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + Z (Undo) / Ctrl + Y (Redo).
