Download exercise file for Constructing a Shirt Placket
- Open the file, Shirts_placket, for this exercise. (Download the practice files before starting this tutorial.)
- To do so, navigate to the CLO Tutorial folder, which was previously added in the Introduction to CLO tutorial, within the Library. Go to C_Details, then d_Constructing a Shirt Placket. Double click on the file, Shirts_placket, or drag and drop it into either the 3D or 2D Window.
- Currently, the placket and the body Patterns are merged into a single Pattern. Use Cut & Sew to split the Pattern into two.
- Select the Trace tool from the 2D Toolbar and right click on the purple Baseline of the shirt front. A pop-up menu will appear. Select Cut & Sew. The shirt front Patterns will be split into two at the Cut Line (the Baseline that was selected initially). In addition, Sewing Lines will automatically be established between the placket Patterns and the shirt front body Patterns.
- Adjusting Add'l Thickness
- To express a placket’s actual thickness, as it is usually a multi-layered Pattern, adjust the Add'l Thickness value of the Patterns. Using theTransform Pattern tool from the 2D Toolbar, select all the placket Patterns and navigate to the Property Editor. Scroll down to Add'l Thickness - Rendering. Enter 3mm.
- To see the changes in the 3D Window, navigate to the Vertical View Toggle Menu in the 3D Window and hover the mouse over theTextured Surface icon – the third icon from the Vertical View Toggle Menu. A horizontal row of icons will appear. Select
Thick Textured Surface. The thickness of the Patterns are now reflected on the 3D Garment.
- Expressing Double Layers
- To express turned edges, round the Pattern edges. Select all the placket Patterns using theTransform Pattern tool in the 2D Window. Navigate to the Property Editor and check the option Curved Side Geometry.
- To express a single-layer placket as a double-layered one, check the Double Sided option on in the Curved Side Geometry submenu. The placket will no longer appear single-layered.
- To express interfacing, select the placket Patterns and use the Bond function.
- Navigate to the 2D Toolbar and select the Transform Pattern tool. In the 2D grid, click and drag over all the placket Patterns. The Patterns must be fully encompassed within the marquee box to be properly selected. They will be highlighted in yellow to indicate they have been selected.
- Navigate to the Property Editor and scroll down to Bond/Skive. Click the white arrow to expand the menu and check the checkbox next to Bond. The placket Patterns will change to a deep champagne color in both Windows to indicate that Bond has been applied.
- Simulate to apply the changes.
Comments
Hi. I was on your You Tube Tutorials (Beginner's Guide to CLO Part 2 Editing: Shapes, Internal Shapes, & Symmetry (Lesson 1)) - I noticed in version 6 - if you draw from inside the pattern to outside the pattern - the error does not appear. If you draw from outside the pattern the error appears. It happens with an internal line, or shape. Can you please confirm this is the case - or is it a glitch or a CLO update ?
