Objective

Create custom texture image for curved pattern such as neckband.
Use curved texture image when expressing lace or biz trims.

Operation

Using Adobe Photoshop

Create custom texture image for curved pattern in Adobe Photoshop.

Create a Repeat of real world fabric.
Open the pattern file which the custom texture image will be applied to.
Right click on the curved pattern which the custom texture image will be applied to, then select Zoom to Selected on the pop-up menu.
Take a screenshot of the pattern.
Launch Adobe Photoshop and open both screenshot and Repeat image.
Place the Repeat image on top of the pattern image.
Use the Warp function to transform the Repeat image respective to the pattern.
Open a new window in Adobe Photoshop.
Select, copy, and paste the modified Repeat image to the newly opened window.
Save the modified Repeat image as PNG and be mindful to set the canvas size bigger than the modified Repeat image for easy application and modification in CLO.
Apply the modified Repeat image to the pattern and adjust as needed to place the graphic properly.

Using Adobe Illustrator

Create custom texture image for curved pattern in Adobe Illustrator.

Create a Repeat of real world fabric.
Open the pattern file which the custom texture image will be applied to.
Right click on the curved pattern which the custom texture image will be applied to, then select Zoom to Selected on the pop-up menu.
Take a screenshot of the pattern.
Launch Adobe Illustrator and open both screenshot and Repeat image.
Trace the pattern image with the pen tool.
Select the Repeat image and add as a pattern brush.
Select and copy the longest segment of the traced pattern and apply the pattern brush created in procedure 6.
Place the traced pattern on top of the segment with pattern brush applied.
Select both pattern and segment, right click and select Make Clipping Mask. The segment with pattern brush applied will be clipped based on the pattern shape.
Select the clipped pattern, navigate and select Main Menu > File > Export Selection.
Designate the saving path, file name and save as PNG.
Apply the modified Repeat image to the pattern and adjust as needed to place the graphic properly.
