    I'm looking at getting a MacBook Pro so I can use CLO. Can you advise what is more important for the best performance: GHz, number of cores, memory, or graphics, in order of importance? For example if the choice is between 2.4GHz 8-core or 2.9GHz 6-core, which would be better for CLO? Or if the choice is between 2.4GHz with Radeon 560X or 2.3GHz with Vega 20, what would be better to prioritize?

    Hi. Is the newer generation processors like Intel® Core™ i9-10900X X-series and higher are compatible with Clo 3d and will they be better than Intel i9-9900K?

    These are my system's specifications:
    MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014)
    Processor 1.4GHz Dual-coreIntel core i5
    Memory 4GB 1600Mhz DDR3
    Graphics Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB

    I installed CLO5.2 but its running too slow. Please tell me will these specifications work?

    @jamieq Generally speaking, the more cores, the better. It is also known that a processor with a high clock frequency is advantageous in a scene that usually requires a short computation time, and multiple cores are advantageous when working continuously for a long time. CLO is designed to make the best use of all the resources available on your computer, so we can use the simple formula below to assume the final performance.
    (2.4 x 8) = 19.2 > (2.9 x 6) = 17.4 // 2.4GHz 8-core slightly better.
    As you may know, AMD graphics cards (Radeon, Vega) are not available in CLO. The simulation and rendering of the CLO uses Nvidia CUDA acceleration technology.

    @jelluka Both are Yes.

    @div123 Your computer is slightly better than the minimum. So it should work, but it will work as slow as you said.

    Will you have compatibility with the stylus pen in the future? Lots of patternmakers work with wacom tablets, and I am considering buying a Microsoft Surface because of its touchscreen.

    Hello Clo, I am trying to install the 30 day trial on my MacBook Pro (2012) but keep getting this error message:
    CLO standalone online Auth cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.
    The software needs to be updated, contact developer....
    This can't be correct but I am not sure how to proceed? Any help appreciated

    @jelluka Did you end up buying the computer listed above? Is it working well for CLO? I am in the process of building a PC and a looking for any recommendations for the best parts to buy.

    @shakib01721 I think Quadro CPU's are not supported. You are better off buying an RTX3000 card, that is if you can find one unfortunately.

    Hi, sorry if this is an ignorant question: Is Nvidia CUDA acceleration hardware or software? I'm asking because I want to get a new computer that will be ideal for working in CLO. From reading here, I understand that a Windows computer is more ideal because CLO only supports Nvidia CUDA acceleration, which is not compatible with Mac. However, I am more comfortable with iOS over Windows. Therefore, I'm wondering if utilizing Nvidia CUDA acceleration would be possible if I purchased a PC but ran iOS instead of Windows. Please let me know what you think.

    @brittster0
    Running a Hackingtosh (OS X on PC Hardware) is something I would strongly advise against. Apple doesn't like you doing that and it requires very specific hardware and sufficient knowledge to make such a system.
    Most recommended would be to buy a real PC with Windows 10 on it and sufficiently fast hardware. It will cost you a lot less than Mac with the same specs and CLO seems to run better on Windows anyway.
    I would recommend to choose a system that has fast hardware (if you work on complex projects) because even the recommended system specs from CLO themselves seem rather low to be honnest.

    For those who are interested in how CLO runs on a VERY high end computer, I will share my experience:
    The system has following specs:
    -Threadripper 3990X (64 cores / 128 threads)
    -Gigabyte VISION RTX3090 24GB
    -64 GB G.Skill 3600 MHz Trident Z Neo RAM (4x16GB)
    -Asus TRX40-XE motherboard
    -NZXT Kraken X73 AIO cooler
    -Samsung 980 Pro 500 GB NVMe SSD + 1TB WD SSD
    -Fractal Design Meshify 2 XL case

    This PC is about 8000 euros but it runs CLO VERY well. To give you an example:
    It can run a complex model still (2500x3500 pixels) with particle distance on 3 and lighting on very high in about 1 minute.
    You have 3 render options in CLO:
    -CPU only
    -GPU (CUDA) + CPU assist
    -GPU only

    The fastest is GPU + CPU (obviously). In that case the GPU and all 128 threads of the CPU are used 100%.
    But remakelby GPU only is only about 10 to 15% slower. In that case the CPU is used about 4 to 5%.
    CPU only is the slowest option.

    So if you have to cut budget certainly go for a fast GFX card like a RTX3080 or 3090 and as a CPU go for a 24 or 32 core threadripper, or even a 5950X (if you can find one).
    Hope this info is usefull as I found it difficult to find good information on hardware before buying this system.

    @brittster0
    To answer you other question concering CUDA: apple uses AMD graphics cards which use OpenCL, while CUDA is the proprietary system of Nvidia. But both are hardware accelerated. But as said before in the previous post, CLO works better on Windows 10 and PC hardware will cost you a lot less for more.

    Hi there. I was wondering if you have any information regarding the performance of CLO3d on the new Mac Mini (M1, 2020) system, with 16G RAM. I am looking at various options, but I have heard good things about the M1 performance. Does CLO support Mac OS Big Sur? thanks

    Hello! Does Anyone use NVIDIA® Quadro RTX4000 card? Im planing to buy a i9 with this Grafic card. is it enough. will it run well?

    Best regards
    Fredrik

  • CLO TechSupport

    @Fredrik
    CLO team have been tested the Quadro RTX 6000 and Quadro RTX 5000 respectively and they show great performance in CLO rendering. In fact, they are based on the same architecture, and there will be a performance difference due to the difference in the number of VRAM and CUDA cores. So, CLO software will show good performance on the Quadro RTX 4000 card.

    And be sure to install the latest driver as always.

    Ok thank you! would it be worth buying a RTX5000 card instead of 4000? Is it just time I will save, when render? or is RTX 4000 slower when working in clo also? does it effect the output quality? Today I sit at a 27" Imac 5k 3,6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 and Radeon Pro Vega 48 8 GB but as Clo does not support Radeon cards. I need to buy a PC instead. . or is this going to change soon? I love my Mac, but its going way to slow in the program today.

    Will the all-new 24” iMac Apple M1 Chip, 8-Core CPU/GPU, 16GB unified memory be of good performance when simulating/rendering? Under the Mac notes, does “supported normally”mean it can function as usual, or speed usual?

    0
  • CLO TechSupport

    @janechain9
    M1-chip macs are supported in the same way in terms of functions, and in terms of performance, they tend to be faster than existing Intel-chip macs.
